At the end of Act One of Our Town, the Stage Manager says that the town is making a time capsule and he will add a copy of the play Our Town for the people of the future to know what Grover Corner's was like. From what you have seen thus far in the play, what other item not already placed in the time capsule would you add to respresent the town? Why? (This post closes at midnight on Tuesday, September 22nd.)

If I could choose anything, I would add a photo of the townspeople to complement the play. This photo would serve to illustrate the people mentioned in the play. Moreover, it would depict how they looked and dressed on a daily basis. Thus, future generations could compare themselves to the people of Grovers Corners. Because "a picture is worth a thousand words," I would put a photo of the townspeople in the cornerstone.

If I was to choose anything to add to the time capsule, I would probably add the personal diaries of a few characters. I would choose a personal diary for joy and enertainment of future generations. The diaries would explain a personal perspective of Grovers Corners, rather than a basic town perspective given from the newspaper.

If I could choose anything to add to the time capsule, it would include the instructions for canning beans in glass jars. Future generations would realize that it was not always possible to just buy canned beans off the shelf from Wal-Mart. If the procedure for canning the beans were put in the time capsule, people in the future would know how beans were originally canned.

If I could choose anything to place in the time capsule, I would choose the Grover's Corners high school year book. It would show what sports were popular, how people dressed, and many other common things often taken for granted. It would also show a bit more about George and Emily.
