Giving Thanks

As we approach the end of the semester and Thanksgiving Day, I would like to tell you how much I have enjoyed having each of you in my class. I hope that something we read inspired or interested you. Therefore, of all the things we have read, which work are you most "thankful" for having read? Why? (The deadline to post a response to this question is midnight Friday, November 25, 2011.)

Each work we have read this semester has taught me a lesson, but the work I am most thankful reading is Lord of the Flies because it was a good read, and my ability to identify symbolism increased.

I am thankful for the book A lesson Before Dying. Although it was a book I at first hated the story of Jefferson inspired me to look at life in a new way. It taught me that life is not always about who sees what you accomplish. Instead it illustrates how important life is to each individual person. With the help of this book I was able to see past the "I want"s in life and then worked on the "they need".

I am thankful that I read In the Time of the Butterflies in this class. Well, because of this class. It helped me see what happened to real people during a real revolution. It also helped show me just how a revolution can affect the home front, rather than just the military thinking of it.

I am thankful that we read Lord of The Flies. I am not very good at identifying symbolism and other literary devices while I am reading, and because this book is written on a ninth grade reading level I was able to focus more on the symbolism and less on trying to decipher the actual lines of text.

Although only 3 of us read the novel, I am most thankful for having read We were the Mulvaneys because it discusses how humans handle situations the way they do. We sometimes make rash decisions because we do not know exactly what else to do. This book is amazing and everyone should read it :)

The book I am most thankful for is Lord ofthe Flies. It was a really inspiring peice of work because of the way William Golding portrayed society accurately. It was also really entertaining and an enjoyable book.

I am most thankful for Lord of the Flies as well. I loved how William Golding used so much detailed symoblism and literary devices. I think it is the best book I have read so far because it was very entertaining. I liked how Golding made it an allegory for society.
