Thrice to thine, thrice to mine...the charm's wound-up!

Notice that the Weird Sisters are referred to as "witches" only in the stage directions. No one sitting in the audience seeing the play will hear the word witch even once. Rather, in the text Banquo and Macbeth call them "Weird Sisters." They, in fact, even refer to themselves by such a title. The word "weird" is derived from the Old English "wyrd," meaning fate or destiny. Thus far in the play, how have the predictions of the Weird Sisters influenced or controlled Macbeth's fate/destiny? Do you believe that their influence is the greatest influence upon him? If so, why? If not, what or who influences Macbeth most? (This post closes at midnight, Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013.)

I think the Weird Sisters prediction that Macbeth will be king has greatly influenced his actions so far in the play. I don't believe Macbeth would have thought of killing the king if the Weird Sisters wouldn't have told him that he would be king after he was the Thane of Cawdor. Along with the Weird Sisters, Lady Macbeth greatly influenced Macbeth. After he had made up his mind that he shouldn't kill the king, Lady M convinced him outherwise. Although the Weird Sisters first introduced the thought of fate to Macbeth, I think Lady Macbeth has the greatest influence on him.

I believe that the Weird Sisters have influenced Macbeth's actions greatly. If the Weird Sisters did not tell Macbeth that he would be king, he would have never thought of killing him. I also believe that the Weird Sisters were the ones who put the most influence on him. Like Lealah said, Lady Macbeth has a great influence in what Macbeth did. However, she would have never pushed her husband to kill anyone if she did not know, also. Even though the Weird Sisters indirectly influenced Macbeth, they are the greatest influence on him.

The weird sisters have really had an influence on Macbeth. They planted the idea into his head, and, without the idea, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth would not have done any of the actions that they have done so far in the play. The "fate" sisters are the main driving force of Macbeth's actions, but Lady Macbeth has also had some influence on him.
