At the end of Chapter 5 Ralph says, "If only they could send us something grown up...a sign or something." In the beginning of Chapter 6, Ralph's prayer comes true. It's a form of dramatic irony because Ralph doesn't know that his message has.arrived from the grownups, but the reader does. This scene is also a form of situational irony because Ralph believes he's going to get a good sign, but the paratrooper ends up being a negative sign not only because he's dead, but also because they think it's a monster. As a result of his wish, Ralph has to face his fears and discover what this horrible creature really is.
Samneric represent the blurred masses. They cannot act independently of each other, and similarly in society, once a rumor or thought is vocalized, it becomes fact often without question. People will believe what one person thinks because it is the easiest thing to do instead of investigating the circumstances themselves. Samneric’s conclusion also got quite exaggerated after they bounced the idea around between themselves, and it was not even true to begin with. Once a rumor is spread around in society, the general public tends to twist it until it gets out of hand and causes mass chaos.
Simon is right. The beast is man kind. In the world, there is crime and people who do not care about the people around them. We human beings do things that may hurt others, no matter what the consequences of our actions. Simon is right when he calls man kind the beast. Although we are the same thing, we humans still try to inflict harm on others around us.
