Exploring the Allegorical Nature on the Island

In Chapter 5, the meeting breaks down in confusion and fear. Jack defies the rules and starts talking without having the conch. When Ralph shouts to Jack, "You're breaking the rules,"Jack responds, "Who cares?" What is Ralph's response? Is he right or wrong? How so? How does this relate to society? Why do we have rules and how important are they?

When Jack says who cares Ralph replies with rules are all that we got. Ralph is right that rules are all the boys have because without rules they would have no lifestyle. The boys would turn into animals hunting and killing whatever in any way they could. This relates to society in the sense of crime and jail. If a person disobeys the law he or she goes to jail. In civilized society people do not want animals doing as they please. Rules are important in our society because without them order would be lost. Without rules everyone would turn to an evil life because it would not be considered evil. With rules structure is built and a society is formed.
