In Their Eyes Were Watching God, the section about i found most interesting is when Joe is building the town up from nothing. i enjoy books or movies that have a great change in them. I also like the way Joe thinks out everything the town needs. The book as a whole has many changes that are not for the better. She was happy without a husbad. Then she was happy with Logan for a short time. Then she moved to Joe who she was happy with and neow he is sick and dying. IH

In the things they carried. The most intense scene in the novel is when the puppy is blown up. This shows that if the soliders have to hurt then something else needs to hurt.

In As I Lay Dying, the section that stood out to me was one of Vardaman's chapters. "My mother is a fish." The entire chapter was only one sentence yet it was very powerful. It showed an innocent child's thought about his dead mother. After learning that Vardaman has a mental illness, I further understood why he referred to his mother as a fish. -DE

In The Things They Carried, a prominent idea expressed is the idea of telling a true war story. O' Brien says that a true war story is never moral and never completely true. Which is partly why I believe that he made this book a fiction novel.

In Their Eyes Were Watching God, I found that the most powerful scene is when Tea Cake confronts Janie with a gun. She is forced choose between her own life and that of the man she loves. Then, even after killing her sick husband in self-defense, she acts as though he never did anything to hurt her. This scene and the scenes following until his funeral show Janie's love for Tea Cake. I am reading As I Lay Dying.
The passage that stood out most to me is Vardamans chapter when he says "My mom is a fish." This shows that he is slow and cannot comprehend the death of a loved one. He can only make the connection with a fish so it does not mean anything to him

In As I Lay Dying, the father thinks that his daughter, Dewey Dell, is keeping money from him. Anse shows how selfish he can be and takes the money from her. Dewey Dell wanted to use the money to get rid of her baby. Anse does not realize this and takes her money without believing her about whose money it is. This scene shocked me and made me realize how careless Anse has been through the novel.

I found that in THE THINGS THEY CARRIED, the vignette in which Rat Kiley tortures the baby water buffalo is extremely emotional. After Rat's best friend Curt Lemon is killed by a booby trap, Rat is so distraught that he eventually shoots a baby water buffalo in places that will not kill the buffalo instantly. This scene shows that war puts a great psychological load on soldiers.
