Literature on Note

During the Medieval Period, the common folk enjoyed many folk ballads like the ones we are reading in class.  Which folk ballad: "Edward, Edward", "Lord Randall," or "Get Up and Bar the Door" did you find most interesting and why?  (The deadline to post a response is midnight, Wednesday, November 12, 2014.)

I found "Get Up and Bar the Door" the most interesting because of how it showed the coming change of the new time period while adding a comical twist to it.

"Lord Randall" was my favorite of the three because I loved how the Middle English flowed with the story. It sounded beautiful to me. I also enjoyed the story line and found the short time period it covered very interesting.

I personally thought "Edward, Edward" was most interesting because of the twist ending where Edward showed that his corrupt morals were actually a mirror of his mothers evil morals.

I enjoyed "Get Up and Bar the Door" the most out of the three because it was slightly comical and the woman stood up for herself.

I enjoyed "Get Up and Bar the Door" the most out of the three. The poem goes against what was typical for women in that time period. It also illustrates that women, if they are stubborn enough, will end up getting their way.

In my opinion "Get Up and Bar the Door" was the best. It showed a true battle of the sexes and who is obviously the stronger willed.

I enjoyed " Get Up and Bar the Door" because it showed the stubbornness in all humans. While having humor, it showed a constant battle for dominance between a man and his wife. Not only did it show a need for dominance in relationships, it showed how all male and female generations have always tried to assert their dominance in this world.
