Which letter now?

Hester has worn her A for years and it changed from adulterer to able to apostle.  If you could give Hester another letter, what would it be and what would it symbolizes?  Why?  If you could give Dimmesdale or Chillingworth letters, what would it be and what would they symbolize?  Why?  (The blog closes at midnight, Saturday, December 10, 2011.)

If I could give Hester another letter, representing her character, I would give her P for perseverence. It takes a unique strength to be able to survive what she has gone through with her humanity intact. I would give Dimmesdale a C, for cowardly corpse. I can have no respect for a guy who indirectly confesses, and then immediately dies convieniently afterward. I would give Chillingworth an R, for revenge and for rat.

If I could give Hester Prynne a new letter it would be "S" for strength. Hester remained incredibly strong despite her circumstances. She could have easily ran away and never looked back, but she stayed in town and faced her problems. If Dimmesdale could have a letter I think the most appropriate would be "C" for coward. His cowardly ways caused him to live a life of misery rather than confessing and moving on from his past sins. If Chillingworth were to wear a letter, I think "R" would be fitting, meaning revenge. He wasted his life seeking revenge on Hester and the minister rather than forgetting his lecherous wife and moving on with his life.

If i could give Hester any letter, it would be R for responsibility because Hester took responsibility for her actions throughout the entire novel. The only reason she lied to Pearl is because Pearl is too young to understand. I Would have to give Dimmesdale W for weak. He was weak because he waited till he died to reveal the truth of his relations to Pearl, and instead of staying strong with his decision to hide, he let the guilt to him. I would give Chillingwork U for unwise. He may have been a learned man, but he wasted the last years of his life torturing someone who he could have easily forgoten about and continued on with his life.

If I had to take away Hester's A and give her another letter, I would have to give her the letter P for Power. Throughout the novel, she never lost control over herself, and she maintained who she was and did not let it get stripped away. As for Dimmesdale, he would get a C for Coward (original I know), because he refused to ever completely come clean with himself and all the townspeople. Chillingworth would receive an M for Misunderstood. All he wanted was to exact vengeance for the holy sanctity he had with his wife being violated.
