A Bug's Life

In what ways do you think Gregor was like a "bug" even before his metamorphosis? (This post closes at midnight, Sunday, October 26, 2014)

Gregor is like a bug before his transformation in that he has no "backbone." He is shy and never defends himself. His boss treats him like the messenger boy, and his father can be aggressive towards him. He still lives with his parents like a worker bee stays at it's hive. Even before Gregor's transformation, he is very much like a bug.

Gregor is like a bug in many ways. He works and travels all of the time. He can be compared to as the common ant. He works all of the time to build his bed of support for his family.

I agree with Jacki that he has no backbone because it is shown throughout the novella in how he does not stand up to either his boss or his parents about not wanting to work. He is also like the busy bee that collects the food for the hive. Gregor wakes up every morning to the same routine; wake up, eat, work, eat, sleep, showing no interests and carrying life out like a drone bee.

Gregor is like a bug in the way he works and socializes. He constantly is working, traveling around, and doing anything his superiors tell him to do. He also never goes out and socializes. His mom commented on how when he is home he will stay in the house when he is not working. He has no friends and keeps to himself. His only goal seems to be keeping his family fed and under a roof.
